Fiddler on the Roof, based on Sholem Aleichem stories by special permission of Arnold Perl, book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Set in the Pale of Imperial Russia in 1905 and is based on the story of Tevye and His Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman) by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives.
